This piece was originally written in memory of Jo Ellen Davis, who suffered an unspeakable crime as an early teen yet maintained a strong sense of humor and spirit throughout most of her life. I wanted to extend the dedication to the people of Israel, who experienced a savage attack on Oct. 10, and also to friends who count themselves friends of Israel. We look forward to better days.
