A gunfighter song. One of the last recordings I did with Matt Boon before his unexpected death. There are a few slight glitches I couldn't fix without Matt. RIP bass man. .

We rode out of the high country
Chasing outlaws who stole our horses
We were mounted up on burros
I had my rifle I called her Daisy, my Daisy True

Peter Driscoll rode out of Leadville
There was no counting the men that he’d killed
Rumor had it he’d scalped a marshal
And tied his body to an anthill

I do know Peter had stole my best horse
I knew he’d shoot you right in the spine
And I knew Peter would be waiting
In the scrub pines by Copperfield Mine

Sweetheart, I said do Daisy
Don’t you fail me this afternoon
When Peter rises up to kill me
You do what you have to do

I jacked a bullet into her chamber
I sent the boys off to scout the ridge
Then I rode down into the canyon
Shut my eyes and I said my prayers
I said my prayers

We were halfway down the ridge line
When Peter Rose up from the scrub pines
He shouted Damn You, boy now you will die
Fired a bullet, went deep in my thigh

But Daisy flew across my saddle
She did not falter despite my pain
And I pulled Daisy down on Peter
I said Sweetheart, it’s time for you to sing
And Daisy sang

Peter Driscoll hit the ground, blood flying all around
I put one slug where his soul used to be
Got my horse got his gun
Left him cooking in the sun
And I kissed my sweet Daisy’s hot steel cheek.
